Decks - Keperra

"The most exciting feature ..... is that it has made a very ordinary looking house into something which .... looks quite extraordinary!"

The extraordinary new deck built for Keperra home owner Veronica.

For Veronica Schofield, life so far hadn't been quite as fantastic as she had hoped. Now in Keperra, she found herself in an older house which was something less than her dream home. Although it did have some charm, it wasn't big and there were days when it seemed positively small and limiting. However it wasn't all bad news as the house did have potential.

Veronica had already worked out that with the house low at the front and high at the back, the sloping block was ideal for a deck. The trees and birds provided a great outlook and an ideal environment for outdoor living and entertaining. But like most things, carrying a good idea into reality isn't as easy as it may appear.

A builder who was also a family friend had the inside running. He appeared knowledgeable and had already convinced Veronica about a design and was about to have plans drawn.

However something wasn't right and Veronica's gut knew it too. In what turned out to be a stroke of luck, another family friend who renovates houses said, "The Pergola Centre builds great decks. Why not talk to them?"

That phone call changed the course of Veronica's destiny. Veronica takes up the story.

Veronica's Transformation - Video

"From the moment that John from The Pergola Centre stepped into my house, it was like a meeting of minds. He was quick to see the house's potential and equally quick to see the shortcomings of the original plan.

"He changed everything. The deck was bigger and the design was better. You just got confidence that he knew what he was talking about and could deliver the vision that he saw. There was only one problem - it came at a higher price tag than I had envisioned.

"I didn't spend days agonising over it. I spent weeks. I wanted the project. My house wanted the project. I had the money but did I really want to spend it?

"The pause was when I was considering my finances. At the time I was really concerned whether I could afford this. Later on further reflection - I thought - well - this was something I really need to improve my life. I don't really want to be just working for a roof over my head, and the food that I eat. I would like another dimension to my life and have a bit of fun, and I also would like to open up my life so that I could do a bit of entertaining at home.

"After another conversation with John, that sealed it for me. His commitment to the project and the faith in his team to deliver is refreshing. From the moment that I said "Yes", I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.

"Although we had some hiccups with rain, the project went really well. Everyone who worked on the project was terrific; efficient, dedicated, clean, unobtrusive. You couldn't ask for more.

"Once I made my decision, I always had confidence that it would turn out alright. However, the final result has me in awe. For me, the most exciting feature about the project is that it has made a very ordinary looking house into something which I think looks quite extraordinary.

"I used to live in Paddington and was really sorry to leave that house. I feel as though I am back there again. It's Paddington transported to Keperra. The future looks great. I would recommend The Pergola Centre to everyone."

John Stewart, General Manager of The Pergola Centre said, "Naturally we are delighted with the result and Veronica's enthusiasm and appreciation. However, that is what we do.

"When you do a home improvement, it's more than a chance to add a bit of extra space and a bit of roofing. It's an opportunity to add pride and charm. It's an opportunity to bring family and friends together in a great environment and at the same time make a profitable investment.

"There is no doubt that our projects can be more than the cheaper options. But they deliver. We believe that it's better to do what needs to be done, not more, not less. And we have been doing it since 1979.

"In the words of John Ruskin, "It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do".
